DIY Spa Treatments: Rejuvenate at Home for Less

There is nothing like a long day at the spa to rejuvenate the body and the spirit. But a session at a chic day spa could easily set you back hundreds of dollars. This is often not an option for those on a budget. Using natural ingredients and simple formulas, you can create soothing soaks and invigorating scrubs to pamper your face, feet and body -- all for a fraction of the price of a single spa treatment.

  • Place ½ cup of plain oatmeal in a small bowl. Use the base of a heavy glass to crush the oats, creating a fine powder. Add 1 tbsp. of honey and ¼ cup of plain yogurt. Stir rapidly with a fork to form a smooth paste.

  • Spread the mixture over your face and neck. With the tips of your fingers, use small circular motions to lighty scrub the skin. Circle upward, working your way from the chin to the forehead. Wait 10 minutes and rinse the residue away with warm water.

  • Cover the bottom of a small, plastic basin with smooth stones. Pour 2 qt. of boiling water into the basin. Wait for the water to cool. Add 2 tbsp. of olive oil and 1/4 tsp. of peppermint essential oil. Immerse your feet. Allow them to soak for at least 10 minutes while rubbing your soles against the hot stones.

  • Pour 1¼ cups of white sugar into a large bowl. Add ¼ cup of olive oil, 2 tsp. of lemon juice and 2 tbsp. of honey. Stir until the ingredients are well-blended. Apply this sugar scrub to your body, focusing on any areas that are particularly dry. Massage the mixture into your skin to loosen dead skin cells. Wipe the sugar away with a damp cloth to reveal softer, smoother skin.

  • Fill the bathtub with hot water. Add 1/2 cup of Epsom salts, 1 tbsp. of olive oil and ½ tsp. lavender essential oil. Lower yourself into the tub and soak for up to 30 minutes. The Epsom salts help soothe tired muscles, while the lavender scent helps you unwind.
