Prevent pesky flies from bothering your guests at the outdoor barbecue by getting rid of them at the source. The fly maggot is the larval form of the fly, often found living in trash, in sink drains or in the garden. The maggots eat away at decaying material, and if allowed to mature, turn into flies. While there are a number of chemical solutions for killing fly maggots, you can also use natural methods for dealing with them.
Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil.
Pick up the maggots with a spoon or a shovel.
Dump the maggots into the boiling water. The heat kills them instantly, and then you can drain the pot and throw the maggots away.
Put on a face mask and rubber gloves. Diatomaceous earth is a very fine, very sharp-grained dust that kills maggots by puncturing their sides, and it is an irritant if inhaled.
Sprinkle the diatomaceous earth on top of the maggots and wherever you have seen them before. Diatomaceous earth is best used in the garden, where it won't harm small children or house pets.
Reapply the diatomaceous earth whenever you have a heavy rain.
