Candle wax spills and drips can be a challenge to remove from hardwood floors or wood furniture. You would think that you need to apply heat to melt the wax and remove it, but the heat can cause the wood to absorb the candle wax, which can result in the wood swelling and the wax becoming entrapped in the wood grain. To avoid damaging the wood, you need to remove the wax by first allowing it to harden completely.
Apply an ice pack to the area, so the wax hardens. Place a thin cloth between the wood surface and the ice pack. You do not want to damage the wood with the condensation from the ice pack.
Use the edge of a credit card, plastic spatula or plastic putty knife to scrape off as much of the wax as possible. Do not use metal or anything with a sharp edge because it can damage the wood surface.
If there is any wax left on the surface, dampen a rag with soapy water and wipe the surface to remove the rest of the candle wax. Treat the surface with furniture polish.
