Effective Ways to Remove Permanent Marker from Wood Dressers

When a wood dresser has been marked with a permanent marker there are a few methods that you can use to remove the marker from the wood. If you do not want to re-finish the wood dresser you can try to remove the permanent marker yourself with products you may have around your home. One method to try involves using regular white toothpaste and another requires the use of nail polish remover.

Use Toothpaste

  • Apply a small amount of white toothpaste to the permanent marker stain.

  • Let the toothpaste sit for a few minutes.

  • Place a small amount of dish soap into a small container and add some hot water.

  • Place a sponge in the soapy water and then wring it out.

  • Run the sponge on the toothpaste in the direction of the grain on the wood until the marker begins to come out.

Use Nail Polish Remover

  • Apply a small amount of non-acetone nail polish remover to a dishcloth.

  • Rub the dishcloth over the permanent marker until it begins to come off.

  • Clean any nail polish remover residue off of the dresser using soap and water.
