Brass is a common metal used in households. Manufacturers make brass or brass-plated beds, bathroom and kitchen hardware and lamps. Brass plate is an alloy in which a very thin layer of brass is fused to the surface of another metal. Over time, a brass-plated lamp gets tarnish, which appears as green or grey film. It’s necessary to remove tarnish gently so as not to remove the brass plate as well.
Unplug the lamp and remove the light bulb.
Dust the lamp to remove any surface dust or dirt.
Mix ½ cup vinegar with 1 tbs. salt in a bowl. Add enough flour to create a thick paste.
Dip a cotton cloth into the paste and apply to tarnish on the lamp.
Keep the paste on the lamp for 10 minutes.
Wet a cloth and wipe off the paste. Rinse the cloth and repeat until you remove all paste.
Dry lamp with a cloth. Then rub lamp until the brass plate shines.
