The Kenmore Progressive 12-amp upright vacuum offers a cord release, touch control, dirt sensor, height adjustment, handle release pedal and a headlight. Available for purchase online or in select appliance or department stores, the vacuum should function well with basic maintenance and care. However, if users experience problems with the vacuum cleaner, some troubleshooting steps may be necessary. This will help identify the source of the problem and potentially locate a resolution as well.
Verify that the Kenmore Progressive vacuum is fully plugged into a working outlet if it is not running. Reset the fuse or circuit breaker if necessary. If the vacuum has overheated, unplug and allow the unit 30 minutes to cool before restoring power.
Turn off and unplug the vacuum if the device has low suction or no suction at all. Remove the dust bag from the cloth compartment and discard. Connect a new dust bag on the nozzle inside the dust bag compartment and secure. Push down on the filter cover release tab on the back of the vacuum cleaner. Lower the cover and remove the filter. Place a new filter inside and close the cover.
Examine the hose and nozzle for clogs if the vacuum is noisy or is not suctioning properly. Clean as necessary. Adjust the height setting so that the vacuum is making constant contact with the carpet.
Allow the vacuum cleaner to cool down for one hour if the agitator is not turning. Turn the vacuum over and check the agitator brush for strings or obstructions and remove.
Set the vacuum cleaner handle in the upright position and then tilt the entire vacuum back slightly if the height adjustment is not changing. Adjust the height setting while the vacuum is tilted back.
Turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner if the headlight is not working. Remove the clear cover over the light bulb and use the old bulb to purchase a new one. Replace the light bulb and set the cover back on the front of the vacuum.
