Troubleshooting Shark Upright Vacuum Cleaner Suction Issues

Shark Euro-Pro upright vacuum cleaners are designed not to lose suction; however, situations can occur that will diminish the cleaning capacity of your vacuum. You need to be sure that you are using the vacuum cleaner properly and that all equipment has been put together correctly. Fixing a Shark upright vacuum generally takes a small amount of time for trouble-shooting and minor adjustments.

Things You'll Need

  • Shark upright vacuum
  • Flashlight
  • Be sure the vacuum is properly plugged in. Check the "on/off" switch, as well as the circuit breaker or fuse. Unplug the vacuum from the power source before continuing your investigation.

    First check power source
  • Remove and empty the dust cup. Remove the hose from connections at both ends and check for blockages, using a flashlight if necessary. Check the openings on the vacuum at the hose connections for blockages, too.

    Check for dust buildup
  • Lay the vacuum down and check the brush roll for excessive hair that may be caught in the brush. Pull out any materials caught in the brush and double-check the opening for blockages.

  • Check the foam filter for excessive dirt and dust and replace if necessary. Check the cyclonic chamber below the filter for excessive dust, dirt or blockage.

  • Reattach all hoses and other parts that were removed during the inspection.
