DIY Dishwasher Rinse Aid: Sparkling Clean Glasses - Save Money & Shine!

Glasses can get spots on them or become cloudy after going through the dishwasher. This is embarrassing to you and your family when guests join you for dinner. Commercial rinse agents tend to be expensive. You can make your own homemade rinse agent that will last a long time and is inexpensive. Regular use will prevent spotty or dull looking glassware and will give your glasses a sparkling shine.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean container with a lid
  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Household rubbing alcohol
  • Hydrogen peroxide (3 percent)
  • Citric acid
  • Mix one cup distilled white vinegar, ¼ cup household rubbing alcohol, ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide (3 percent), and 2 tbsp. of citric acid in a clean jar or other container with a lid.

  • Shake until the citric acid dissolves.

  • Pour about two teaspoons into your rinse agent dispenser in your dishwasher. You may need to experiment by using more of the rinse aid in the next load, depending on the hardness of your water.

  • Add your regular dishwasher detergent and run the dishwasher as normal.
