Ceramic Hob Cleaning: Expert Tips & Safe Methods

Ceramic hobs are stove tops without exposed and cumbersome burners. Instead, the stove top is made of a ceramic material that is flat and simple to clean and maintain. Maintain the ceramic hob by cleaning it with non-abrasive scouring rags and sponges, cleaners and, in extreme cases, a single-edge scraper equipped with a razor blade. You can find hob cleaners, which are manufactured by companies such as Cerama Bryte, Easy-Do and Weiman at grocery and home improvement stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Hob cleaning product
  • Paper towel or soft kitchen cloth
  • Non-abrasive scouring pad
  • Single-edge scraper
  • Squeeze a dime- to quarter-size amount of hob cleaner near or at the center of the soiled area.

  • Spread the hob cleaner in circular or back-and-forth motions over the soiled area on the hob using a paper towel or a dry kitchen cloth. Repeat the process until the soiled area is clean.

  • Wipe up the excess hob cleaner and debris with a clean paper towel or a dry kitchen cloth.

  • Scrub the hob surface with a non-abrasive scouring pad and a dime- to quarter-size amount of hob cleaner when a regular cloth is not sufficient; companies manufacture scouring pads specifically designed for use with ceramic hob surfaces.

  • Scrape stubborn or caked-on material, minerals or burnt food using a single-edge scraper equipped with a clean razor blade. Hold the scraper at a 45-degree angle when pushing it across the hob surface to avoid scraping or gouging the surface.

  • Use a clean cloth to remove any leftover residue and cleaner from the hob surface.
