Overwhelmed in the Kitchen? Simple Strategies for Aspiring Cooks

Hello, my name is Samantha and I am willing to admit I am a bad cook. I don't wish to be, and it is not because I am lazy, but I simply have too much going on to focus on one thing. Two separate times this week, I have started cooking something only to be distracted and then it burns. Technically, my hard boiled eggs didn't "burn" but they burst out of the pot when all the water evaporated and I had hard boiled egg shards all over my kitchen. In an effort to become a better cook, I have looked to a higher power (the internet) in search of tips and tricks that could make me a better cook. Here they are:

1. Set a timer! That way, an egg won't explode on your stove!

2. Prepping food in advance (shopping and chopping) takes some of the stress out of cooking and preparing meals. Do all the shopping and chopping on the weekend so you are ready for your week.

3. When preparing pasta, cook it one minute less than you normally would and finish cooking the pasta in a pan with the sauce.

4. After working with garlic, get rid of the smell on your hands by rubbing your hands vigorously on your stainless sink for one minute before washing them.

5. For a rich, creamy dressing, substitute half of the mayo with Greek-style yogurt. A great healthy substitution.

6. When sauteing anything, don't crowd the pan because the food will steam instead of saute. Consider sauteing in smaller batches.

7. Always let your meat rest after cooking.

8. After boiling or blanching vegetables, plunge them into ice water for a second to help retain the bright color.

9. Buy fruit during peak season at a farmers market and freeze it so you can have great fruit to cook with all year.

10. To get all the juice out of your lemon or lime, roll it under your palm for a minute or so before slicing it open.

11. Remember to have fun. Everyone makes mistakes (like having a hard boiled egg explode in your kitchen), just keep trying.

Make sure you pay attention to the last tip. It is easy to have fun while cooking. Heck, get the kids involved! After all, what is the worst thing that can happen? You burn dinner? That is ok, that is why there is pizza delivery. Happy Cooking! For more infomration of food, check out the South Beach Diet Delivery Review or Talking To Toddlers Review
