Understanding Caloric Value vs. Calorie Density in Food

    What is the difference in the caloric value  in the specific portion  VS. the caloric yield in the same protion of food?  When I eat a bowl of that's says 175calories per serving that's the amount of calories  I'm consuming?

I imagine, this is because the volume of raw food can be different from that of the same but cooked food. Cooked food in most cases is heavier, ounce for ounce, so your bowl can contain more of it and naturally with more calories.

Another thing is, it's very hard to tell with any degree of precision how many calories will be really absorbed by your body since it depends on the way your food is prepared, the way you chew on it, the way you combine it with other foods, etc. But it doesn't seem to relate to the caloric yield on the labels.
