QuestionHi
I am 39,no medical issues.
I work out and dont eat much, but my belly sticks way out.
I can even see veins and my abs!
The only reason for this I can see is when I drink beer I drink LOTS.
Maybe twice a month I will drink 16 or more pops in one session, spread out over a day.
Does this sound like the reason?
My uncle is the same way,so maybe its genetic?
If I quit drinking beer would my belly shrink after a few weeks?
Also,a friend said try milk thistle.
AnswerHi Bud, Well, i think you have solved your own problem! And milk thistle is not what you need--try just good ole milk to replace your beer! LOL
Seriously though, the beer drinking is too excessive. I know that you only drink a few times a month, but you are what's termed a binge drinker, which can actually be more harmful than if you just drank 1-2 beer a day consistently throughout the month. One drinking binge causes a very fatty liver, and it takes a long time for your liver function to return to normal again. Is there a reason why you drink so much at one time? I would rather see you drink a small amt everyday, and then eventually try to cut it down to a couple of beers per week, that way maybe you won't 'crave' the alcohol and go crazy when you do consume it!
I know it is easier said than done, because if you are drinking this much, there must be a reason for it. If you can stop yourself from binging, that would be a step in the right direction.
I am not advocating daily drinking, but I think it would be a start to preventing the binges, and then you cut down from there.
Yes, the large abdominal protrusion that you see in your uncle and yourself can definitely be genetic, and you have to be careful, since large waist girth is a risk factor for metabolic syndrome that can lead to diabetes, heart disease, etc....
Please replace the beer with protein shakes and the gym!
