QuestionI've recently moved to Florida from England and need to know where I can get
the jewellery I make hallmarked. In England I just sent it to the assay office in
London and they would deliver it back in a couple of days all done. Does it work
like that here? Do I have to register? Where can I get it done (Im in Orlando).
Many thanks
AnswerGreetings,
I am in Australia and as far as I know assay marks and makers marks can be applied by the maker and you should be able to purchase the stamp that you require from a jewellers wholesaler. The onus for the correct stamps is placed upon the maker....a bit of an honour system I suppose.
I lived in LA thorugh 87-89 and always stamped my own pieces whilst I was there.
In the UK the assay office actually tests the pieces prior to stamping them.
Hope this is of assistance.
Cheers, P
