Longevity of White Silver Finish: A Guide for Silver Jewelry

Question
Hi Orlando,
How long does the soft white finish you get after pickling silver last? I am
making a ring made of silver that I've hammered with a heavy ball-pein
hammer. There is also some 18K gold details in the ring and I love the
contrast between the polished bits of gold and the white pickle patina but
don't know how long it will last. As it's a commission for a friend, I don't
want to giver her something that will rub away or do something funny as it
oxidises.
Thanks,
Catherine.

Answer
Dear Catherine,
It will not last that long at all, if you have a silicon wheel you can use it to give the metal the same kind of finish, if you like to give a better or different type of finish you can use a broken ball burr and trace figure 8 all over the surface/place where you want contrast, do this as if you were writing something.
If you want to prevent oxidation try ARGENTIUM SILVER, it is an alloy that does not tarnishes ever.

Hope it helps.

Orlando
