Identifying Pearls & 14Kx Clasp: Understanding Your Necklace

Question

MULTI PEARL NECKLACE
Hello,
I have a pearl necklace that I was wondering if you could help me figure out what type of pearls these are and the clasp has 14kx on it. I was told 14kx is platinum or white gold. I'm confused about the value and what I have. Can you help me?
Thanks,
Rebecca

Answer
Hello Rebecca and thank you for your inquiry. I have listed a site below that gives good information on gold hallmarks.  The "x" with the mark is something I've not seen. May be a design mark or pertinent only to the manufacturer or designer. Pearls are difficult to value and really need to be appraised by someone familiar with all the different types of pearls. They could be cultured or genuine ocean pearl and prices can range from $5 to $100 per pearl. The second site might help you with this.

Just copy and paste the above urls into your browser address field and hit enter. Your value would depend on the type of pearls, their quality, color and overall design. An estate jewelry appraiser would be best and you could check with your local antique mall or museum for a referral to someone who could do this for you. It looks like you have a beautiful necklace and I think it would be well worth it to have it appraised.  Enjoy your necklace !
