The markings are": hand painted, L china , made in Japan, then in a green rectangle is: A-5099 also in green. please help thank you... Jane Kusaka
AnswerHello Jane and thank you for your inquiry. It is very difficult, especially with items from Japan, to identify without a company name or hallmark. The L china could be a manufacturer, but I found none with just the letter L in my resources. I have listed a search site at ebay auction below where there are many bamboo china patterns - possibly you could find a match there. Or use your internet search for Japan China Bamboo Pattern. It may be a long search but you might get lucky. There are also books available on Japanese china - check your local book store or amazon.com - even your local library may have some patterns. Here is the ebay link. Just click on or copy and paste it into your browser address field and hit enter:

Another place you might try is replacements.com - They do have a search service and all you need to do is submit your photo. A great place to shop as well !
Hope this helps and good luck !
