Frequent Illnesses: Understanding the Causes & Solutions

Question
QUESTION: I am 20yrs old and try to live a healthy lifestyle. I regularly exercise and drink plenty of water and try to eat lots of vegetables along with taking vitamins. However, I am always getting sick. Over the past year I have been sick 1-2 weeks every month. I have come down with mono, strep that didn't respond to antibiotics, flu, stomach flu, bladder infection, pneumonia, tonsillitis, along with others. I was sick the entire month of July 08 and have just started running a high fever with a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes again. I go to the doctor every time but still get sick again soon after. Why do I get sick so often?

ANSWER: Dear Cherie,

Thank you for writing me I will try to help you out if I can keeping in mind that I am not a doctor. It sounds like you have a low immune system. This may mean that your body is not producing enough white blood cells (cells that protect your body from infection) that would help your body fight off infections. Ask your doctor about you immune system and let them test you to make sure you are ok. Hope I have put you on the right road to health somewhat.

God Bless

QUESTION: They have done several blood and urine tests and are giving me a CT scan today. My white blood cell count was very high. Any other suggestions on what I can ask them to check?

ANSWER: Dear Cherie,

Since you have a high white blood count ask them about any virus or bacteria that maybe infecting your body. Ask about any STD's or any immune illnesses hopefully there are none but it is better to be safe than sorry.

God Bless and take care

QUESTION: Ok, I got checked for STDs and I don't have any. They are now concerned that it may be my gall bladder. Could a sick gall bladder cause me to come down with illnesses so frequently such as strep throat? The tests they want to run are very expensive and I cant really afford them, so I don't want them done unless I am certain that is whats wrong. I do have occasional pain under my ribs on the right side and trouble when I eat greasy foods. Thank you for all the help you've given me so far. It is greatly appreciated!

Answer
Dear Cherie,

I can understand your problem I too have no insurance but the hospital may be able to help you out with the cost. And anytime an organ in your body is not working right it can affect other area's or cause sickness. You can look on the web on this site www.webmd and look up what they say a gall bladder does in our bodies but since you are have pain I would not wait too long to seek medical help.

God Bless
