Understanding Lung Screening During Pregnancy: Risks & Concerns

Question
I went to my ob/gyn the other day with a shortness of breath and slight chest pains. Its something that comes and goes and has been going on for about 2 weeks now. I went to the hospital for lab work (CBC) and a NST on the baby. All of that was fine but now my ob/gyn thinks I should have a lung screen. My concern is the dye they inject you with. And the radiation. I was just wondering if you know anything about this procedure. Does it have any risks to the baby? (30 weeks)

Answer
Whenever a patient complains of shortness of breath and tachycardia, we have to rule out the possibility of pulmonary embolism. A CT scan or a PQ scan will rule out a pulmonary problem. The amount of radiation in these scans will not harm the pregnancy or cause any effect on the baby. Don't worry. Follow the instructions of your ob.
