Planning for a Healthy Pregnancy: Early Labor Concerns & Timing

Question
I am 24 years old and have a son who is almost 2. The first day of my last menstrual period was june 13 making me due march 19th. With my son i went into labour 5 weeks early and ended up on bed rest until he was born (3 weeks early). I have the same job in which i do a lot of standing so i'm worried i'll have the same thing happen to me again, i would love to spend some extra quality time with my son before the baby arrives but understand that may not happen. Is there a good chance that i will have my baby early again? I've read that the best predictor of the future is from what happened in the past as well as standing a lot can make you go into early labour, is this true?

Answer
If you have a history of preterm labor with your last pregnancy, there is, indeed, an increased risk of again having preterm labor. You do not have to stop work at this time, but you should be aware of any contractins yuo have and should not spend lots of time on your feet. Try to rest a few times per day and , if you can't lie down, at least sit in a chair for a few times during the day.  If you start to have contractions, or if your cervix appears short on sonogram, you may be put on bedrest for some time during the pregnancy.  Discuss it with your obstetrician.
