Uterine Rupture After Myomectomy: Causes, Risks & Recovery
Question I 43 2 children by c-section, 2 miscarrges period end march 2006. 10 yrs a go had large fibroid removed by myomectomy, size of large grapfruit and warrented 3 mths hormone treatment to reduce size to make it operable+ iron replacement to get my blood levels to safetly level. 1 yr After a 4.1/2 hr operation to reconstruct my womb and remove the firbroid fell pregnant but was told I would have to have c-section due to the extent of the operation and that natural labour would cause too much risk of rupture to the womb. misscarried but fell pregnant again and had healthy boy Nov 1998.c-section was done by epidural I was on cloud nine. After 6yrs fell again unfortunately lost again but soon after in 2004 baby girl by c-section again. Not such a good experience this time and have been told each successive c-section does get harder. I was setilized at the same time as we decided due to age and fact that we have 2 beautiful children should not fall again and doc recommend I should not have another pregancy as it would be difficult and dangerous. one tube not found were so many adhesions so told to be careful. We careful but now find 6weeks pregnant, face possibility of abort. due to advice of our doctor. cannot tell us we have to but has advised us of risks in continuing with this pregnany. says may need specialist care towards end as grow and uterus stretches as risk rupture great. It goes against all moral beliefs to abort a baby, I have to weigh up pros and cons if anything should happen am leaving a loveing husband two beautiful children behind. How great is the risk really.? very scared but heart tells I will be fine. Specialist care means my normal gyno. wont do op this time but wants me go to a hospital further away where both mummy and baby can have expert care if needs be. maybe for a month before delivery. Can u help me at all. I know be our decission in long term and know my gyno is good one respect advice. I need a help with facts.
AnswerAs you know, anytime you have any surgery on your uterus, you will have a cesarean section. The risk of repeat cesarean section is 1%. You will probably have the operatioin at 38 weeks in order to avoid rupture of the uterus. As long as you do not go into labor, you will not rupture your uterus. Don't worry .
