ASCP Board Exam: Tips & Advice from a Successful Passer
QuestionI was wondering how your board exam was? I am currently a student and am taking the boards in October this year. Any information or advice would be wonderful! Liz
AnswerLiz,
I took the ASCP boards and passed the first time. I would suggest buying a review guide. That's what I did and I studied it exclusively. Here's the one I bought:

I highly recommend the book. I think it would benefit you a lot. There are many hints in the guide that help you remember important information easily. That's the main reason why I liked it so much. You might also ask some of your instructors to see if they have any recommendations. One of them might even have some of the books for you to look at - mine did.
If I had it to do all over again, I would buy the same review guide and I would still only study the review guide. If you're fuzzy about anything in the review guide, you can always review your course materials. Microbiology tends to be an area many students have a problem with, so make sure you spend some extra time studying that area. Be sure to eat a good breakfast - or lunch depending on when you take the test. I think they give you four or five hours to take the test, so you could be in there for awhile. The testing site I chose allowed people leave to go to the bathroom. I would assume all testing sites do that. If you do leave to go to the bathroom, do it quickly because the timer will continue to count down whether you are taking the test or not. That's about all I can think of for now.
Good luck,
Beth
