Ovidrel Trigger Shot Timing & IVF Cycle Impact - Expert Advice

Question
Hi I am doing ivf and after yesterdays appt. And ultrasound was told I am ready for retrieval THIS Sat.@ 10am. I took my last follistim at 8ish pm last night (Thursday) and was supposed to take Ovidrel (trigger shot) at midnight. I mistakenly took both ovidrel shots together with my follistim around 8:45pm. Now the dr. Pushed back the retrieval for 9am Saturday. Did I ruin the cycle by taking Ovidrel a bit earlier. Please help me understand what this means as soon as possible. Thank you.

Answer
Hello,

This is something that your doctor should have explained to you.  I am sorry that you aren't getting the answers from them.  It is part of what you are paying for.

The Follistim will not do anything but the timing of the Ovidrel is critical because it stimulates ovulation.  If the retrieval is not done prior to ovulation, the follicles will ovulate and give up all the eggs.  So, when you go for your retrieval, there will be no eggs to retrieve.  That is why your doctor moved up your retrieval time.  So the convention is to give the Ovidrel injection 34-35 hours prior to the retrieval.

I hope this answers your questions,
