i am 37 yrs old.i had a miscaerriage last year .i am 12weeks pregnant.i had a laproscopy done in 2010 which reported that i had adhesions probably from appendectomy that i had 20yearsback.so my doctor has prescribed ROXITHROMYCIN 300MG {an oral macrolide antibiotic}for 7 days.sir i am very scared of taking this antibiotic  becoz of the adverse effect it may have on foetus as i am already 12 weeks pregnant.sir please advice if i need to take this medicine and is it safe if taken after 12weeks.

ANSWER: Hello Fatema from India,

I can't understand why your doctor has prescribed this medication, since it is for infections and not adhesions, but it is safe in pregnancy.

QUESTION: hello sir
sir as i have told you i am 12weeks pregnant having adhesions probably from the appendectomy that i had 20 yrs back.can these adhesions affect my prenancy?is there any treatment i can take for these adhesion during pregnancy?

Answer
Hello Again,

Adhesions do not impact pregnancy and are not treated with antibiotics.  They will stretch with the pregnancy.  Adhesions are not a problem unless they cause pain or prevent pregnancy (as if they are blocking the tube or pelvis).  In your case, you are already pregnancy so I would recommend that you not give this any further thought.
