Natural Mineral Water Intolerance: Causes & Relief | Health Professionals
QuestionHello Robert:
I am a 56 yo male living and working in the So CA desert. I work in the community of Desert Hot Springs, CA, internationally known for its exceptional natural mineral water qualities which is pumped to the surface from underground aquifers. My concern is that lately whenever I drink the natural mineral water, shortly thereafter I experience increased bloatedness and gas which is very uncomfortable during work with clients. The discomfort is much the same as I have with lactose intolerance which I prevent with Lactaid tablets. Have you ever heard of what I am describing as "natual mineral water intolerance"? Any ideas on how I can prevent it, short of not drinking it at all?
Thank you.
AnswerI have not heard of this at all, and, really question the relationship between your symptoms and the water. First thing I would do, is have your significant other prepare secretly labeled bottles, one containing distilled water, one with this water above, and maybe throw in some bottled waters and see if you really notice the difference. If you are assured that there is a causal relationship, then I don't know.... which minerals are high in the water? Sulfer? You would taste/smell any high level. Other minerals in these waters are in such small concentrations that I really would have to be convinced that it is THIS water doing it....
Sorry, not much help...
PS... do the Lactaid tablets prevent it?
