Starting an In-Home Foot Care Business for Seniors: A Viable Opportunity?

Question
After having cared for and losing both parents, I am convinced in the need for in-home care for the feet of elderly.  I am at a point in my life where I would like to start over and would like to know if you think this type of business could be successful?  I am willing and able to be educated in this field and then travel to appointments doing foot bathes, pedicures, etc.  What education would you recommend beyond a cosmetology nail course? Where might I find this type of education? When we were in need of this service for my parents, none seemed to exist and doctors and nurses were not making house calls or were booked weeks ahead.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Answer
Hi Chris and thanks for writing,

Where I have worked we have alwasy used Podiatrists and Foot Care Nurses for our residents as the elderly can have complications due to illness that require medical knowledge to treat.

If you really want to work with the elderly I suggest you go to Nursing School and then specialise in Wound Care and Foot Care. This will require a substantial monetary and time committment to become a Nurse, but then you will be qualified to work on problem nails, specifically Diabetics.

If you just take Esthetics Courses, you will really only be able to do Salon Pedicures for people with healthy feet.

I hope this answers your question and I wsih you all the best,

Margot
