Thyroid Issues & Metabolism: Understanding Slow Metabolism and Synthroid

Question
QUESTION: I am 58,no health issues except for being overweight and having an  extremely slow metabolism.I am 5'7", 250 pounds, with a lot of the weight on my  very pronounced abdomen.
I have always been this way,I have to eat around 1500 calories a day or I will balloon,in spite of being very active.Of course no one believes me except family and close friends/co workers.
My doctor checked my thyroid levels and they came back normal. They were also done about ten years ago by another doctor/lab and the results were the same then.
He says I dont need any medication, just exercise more and watch what I eat.I dont think he believes how little I eat and how active I actually am.
I cant afford to chase around seeing specialists and getting more opinions.
I am convinced  that I AM hypothyroid, and I want to lose the weight NOW before its too late and I start getting other health issues related to obesity
I have tried various 'natural' metabolism and thyroid boosters like L Tyrosine to no avail.
I am thinking of ordering Synthroid online.
What do you suggest?

ANSWER: you run the risk of getting hyper- too high- thyroid and having a heart rythym problem.... if your tests are normal, you may have a slow metabolism which means that you may need less than 1500 per day... you may need to go down to 1000 per day.... but adding in synthroid carries some risk.....

QUESTION: Do you know where I can find some resources on non thyroid related slow metabolism syndrome?

Answer
I don't know any specific site, you might google it with synthroid and metabolic syndromes....

I do know that several non-chain weight loss clinics supplement their weight loss meds and diets with low dose synthroid or cytomel, but you have to be careful, because of the prev mentioned side effects.
