QuestionWent to nurse practioner with symptoms including rapid weight gain, tiredness, indigestion, extremely warm all the time, back painand dry skin. Am 35 years old. She suspected a goiter after feeling my throat and finding a "slight swelling", so ordered blood work. Results: blood count, kidney and liver function, and thyroid are all normal. Potassium is low, and vitamin D is very low. Is prescribing 50,000 units of vit.D per week for 3 months. She is checking no further, and my question is, "What on earth could be the reason for low vit. D when I eat plenty of dairy, and get lots of sun?"
Answereveryone is low in vit D.... that is the hot new topic... there are very compelling studies saying that our levels need to be normal... so make that a part of your diet... we just don't get enough from diet and very little from sun. I don't know if that explains your symptoms, but you need the vitamin D.....
