QuestionDear Sirs:
Although My mammographer in NYC insisted, last OCtober, that I should not worry at all about the crusting on my nipple, my gynecolgist insisted I get a biopsy this June. I had a punch biopsy and Paget's is diagnosed. CAn surgery be safely postponed until the middle of July when my insurance becomes effective? HOw can I know if it fast-grwoing. As of now, there is no palpable tumor. I am almost 65 and had DCIS in the other breast over 9 years ago.
AnswerDear Ms Kane, You are really giving me a tough question! It is actually impossible to answer. Of course it is best to take care of it right away, but if that for financial reasons is IMPOSSIBLE until mid July then perhaps you do not have a choice! But that decision must be yours! I'm sorry I can not give you a better answer than this!
I'm sorry you have Paget's disease of the nipple (Dr. Paget has another illness - of bones - named after him too), but I'm glad your gynecologist insisted on a biopsy. Your mammographer should probably stick to X-ray pictures and not try to be a clinician as well!
Good luck whatever you decide!
