Understanding an Abnormal Baseline Mammogram at 35: What to Expect

I am 35 and just recently had abnormal baseline mammo.  It states "there is asymmetric tissue in teh deep upper, slightly outer aspect of the right breast.  No other abnormailities are seen in either breast".  I am scheduled for spot compression views and U/S.  I am adopted so I do not know if breast cancer runs in my family.  To say the least I am a little upset by this.  Any thoughts or advice whould be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

The compression views are the first recommendation and then seeing a breast surgeon for a high quality consultation.  It is unfortunate that adoption condemns many women to ignorance of their breast cancer risk in favor of parental privacy.  You can discuss the relative merits of a blood test for the two breast cancer genes with your physician.
