Breast Lump After Breast Cancer - Possible Risks & Causes

Question
I had(34yrs) invasivive ductaula cancer stage 1, small in size with no lymph node involvement in 10/2004. had a masectomy on one side with recontrution on both , Went thru 3 months or 4 months of radiation and refused chemeo . I took tamoxafin on and off for 5 years. This past oct was my 5yr anniv. Last week I went to the doctor for a palable lump at 12;00 in my other breast its somewhat painfull. What is the risk factor of it being cancer could it be scar tissue a 12:00 or fiber? My mamo and ultra sound is scheduled for next tuesday.

Answer
Statistically your risk of a new cancer there is a little more than 1 %. So it is not a big risk but it is NOT 0 either. Most breast lumps are NOT cancer. What it is in your case remains to be seen. The fact that it is painful makes it somewhat less likely to be a cancer. I do suggest a needle biopsy too in order to quickly find out what this is!
