Yasmin Birth Control: When is it Effective & When Can I Have Intercourse?

Question
I have never taken birth control pills before, but now I have recently started taking the birth control pill Yasmin. I am a Sunday Starter and have heard that you need to wait at least a week OR a month until you can use Yasmin WITHOUT a back-up method. On the other hand, the nurse told me that Yasmin (or any other birth control pill) starts its protection the moment you take the first pill. Is this true? Exactly when is the right time that you can begin using Yasmin without a back-up method?

Furthermore, I had unprotected sex on the fourth day of using Yasmin, and he did not withdraw before ejaculation. Is there a possibility that pregnancy could occur because the effectiveness of the hormones in Yasmin did not work yet?

Answer
I would have recommended at least 2 weeks or more of the pill before having sex. However, I don't in general recommend the birth control pill at all or any kind of hormonal birth control.
So in my opinion, and I'm not a doctor, you did risk pregnancy when you had sex on the 4th day after starting the pills. So just be alert to see if you develop any pregnancy symptoms or miss your next period. I'm going to give you my private email address CHERYL51@aol.com so you can contact me personally. Hope to hear from you soon.
