Questionplease answer what you can thanks
what % of women who make an appointment for an abortion show up for the appointment?
what % who show up have a change of heart while waiting?
(and dont come back)
can this be broken down more specifically by the reasons y they r contemplating abortion?
what affect doe s intervention or counseling ahve on a woman changing her mind and not ahving an abortion or an uncertain person deciding to have one because she resents the intervention attempt by the pro life advocate?
AnswerI've gotta admit, these answers are completely my opinion, I don't have much to back them up. Someone who has worked in many women's health centers would know more than me.
I would say without a deposit, it probably is about 40. Many women either don't go, find another place or another time. This is for clinics, not doctors, I'm sure the number for doctors is much lower. BTW, this is really just a guess.
I could imagine more than 5 of women change their minds while waiting and don't come back. Most women who enter do stay.
The effect of counseling has an enormous impact on a woman's decision. This goes both ways. Inside a clinic, counseling will favor an abortion (it is a business...) and at crisis pregnancy centers, they favor not having an abortion. I don't know everything people say, but Most women who are "on the fence" seem to stick with whatever counseling they find first.
As for protests, they don't have a huge effect on women in the clinic, but ones with graphic signs usually do have an impact. The signs are gross and very hard to look at. More peaceful protests aren't as effective. Honestly, those signs are pro-life's "big guns", they are gross and disgusting to look at and even polarize the pro-life side, but it's hard to believe that women walking into a clinic aren't affected by them (why all the fuss?). I think that many women avoid clinics where these signs are shown and either choose a different place or find a doctor/hospital to perform the abortion (where there are no protests).
I wouldn't think many women would have an abortion as a sign of resenting the pro-life advocate. Most women who have abortions do so for their reasons, not others. I think pro-life advocates annoy pro-choice advocates the most. With women obtaining abortions, it's more uncomfortable to see them. It makes the decision more painful and harder which pro-lifers feel is what they want and pro-choicers just think is mean to the woman.
Anyway, hope that answers your question, my information is from advocates on both sides but I can't attest to the accuracy (a lot of this is my personal opinion which might not be worth a penny!).
