QuestionI am 45 I have 5 children,from 19 1/2 yrs down to 6 1/2 yrs.
Been married 21 yrs-very happy with kids and husband. I also have my 87 yr old Great aunt living with me since Sept. I DO NOT want to start over with any more babies. But on Jan. 31 my husband and I were together and do to a lot of stress and hospital surgeries for aunt aunt tournaments for 2 of my kids it slipped my mind my ovulation! It didn't hit me until 2 days later about it. Part of me panicked! but part of me thought i'm beginning pre-menapause so maybe it didn't take. Plus my husband is 57, Very healthy and in shape. But I have never been late. My cycle is always 25-28 days without fail! It has now been 31 days since my period on Jan. 20. Which would mean I'm exactly 20 days! I called my Ob and asked for help: a shot? a pill? they told me that they would not do anything to stop it! Their exact words were"you'll have to go to an abortion clinic." I am very prolife but I also know what 20 days looks like in my uterus-and it is definitely not a baby yet. I am supposed to go to the healthfood store and talk with my homeopathy friend today but I need help quick, please I am so upset I can not do this again
AnswerDear Beth,
You are not alone - I see many women over 40 who seem to become more fertile, and are in this situation. It is normal not to feel like you want to go through having another child at your age. Unfortunately, most abortion services in this country are provided in abortion clinics. It can be difficult to find a private environment for an early abortion. If you are lucky enough to be near one of the doctors on EarlyAbortion.com, these are the best private offices providing private nonsurgical abortion services. If not, you can go to earlyoptionpill.com, or prochoice.org, or gynpages.com to find a doctor or clinic.
As far as early abortion methods to end an early pregnancy... my order of preference is: Aspiration Procedure (or Manual Vacuum Aspiration); Abortion Pill (or RU486), and last: surgical abortion (or D&C). Aspiration is the most safe, simple and convenient way to end early pregnancy. Unfortunately it can be very difficult to find a doctor who does it. The abortion pill is also nonsurgical and is much more widely available and private. Surgical abortion is not usually done privately, is mainly available in abortion clinics, and is unnecessarily invasive. But, depending on where you live, it may be the only option, and it is safe and is the standard of abortion care in this country.
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
