Post-Abortion Concerns: Dark Discharge & Unusual Cramping - Medical Advice

Hi Doctor,

I had a surgical abortion on February 13, 2012 and bled for about a week after. I know that is normal, but after tr bleeding stopped I began to notice an off white discharge and started having weird pains in my lower abdomen where my cramps usually are, but they didnt feel like period cramps. Today I started having weir pains in my lower back and noticed a dark brown discharge. I heard that some post abortion infections cause this and am nervous I may have one. I also learned that these infections may cause infertility so I am very worried. Please help me. Is this okay? Thanks- Madison

This does not sound like an infection.  You can try Motrin 800 mg every 6 hours.  Most facilities give 1 week of Doxycycline and that would prevent an infection with Chlamydia.  Drown discharge and cramping can be normal.  If the discharge has an odor, call the facility so they can have you come in for an examination.
