QuestionWere can i get acrylic oil cheap without going to a salon?
AnswerBy "acrylic oil" I'm assuming you mean cuticle oil? A lightweight oil to rub into your cuticles to keep the skin hydrated and prevent lifting of the acrylic?
While there are many professional nail product companies that market their own oil blends that are truly fabulous, I can understand that sometimes they are pricey, or just inconvenient to get to the salon for purchase. This is why I always tell my own clients that if they need to, they can just use olive oil.
That's right. Regular old olive oil that most people already have in their kitchens.
What you really want in a cuticle oil is a botanical oil or blend of botanical oils. The lipids (small units that make up oils) in these oils are very tiny and easily absorbed through the skin. They hydrate the skin, not just sit on top of it and make you feel greasy.
Stay away from any oil blend that contains mineral oil/baby oil. Mineral oil is a petroleum product; the lipids are far too large to be effectively absorbed into the skin and will just sit on top and make you greasy. Plus, because it's derived from crude oil, mineral oil can actually pull moisture out of your skin and make it drier!
As a general rule of thumb, any oil that is edible is also good for your skin.
That being said, if you still want a cuticle oil that is good for you AND smells pretty-- try a visit to Sally's Beauty Supply. An especially good blend can be found in the ethnic hair supply section, made by Proclaim, it's called "Natural 7 oil."
