Facials & Makeup: Should You Wear Makeup?

No, you should not wear makeup to a facial.

Here's why:

* The aesthetician will have to remove it: The first step of almost any facial is cleansing. If you arrive with makeup on, the aesthetician will spend time and product removing it, which cuts into the time dedicated to the actual treatment.

* It can interfere with the analysis: Your aesthetician needs to see your bare skin to properly assess your skin type and condition. Makeup can mask issues and prevent them from making an accurate diagnosis.

* It can affect the effectiveness of the facial: Makeup can create a barrier that prevents products used during the facial (like serums and masks) from penetrating the skin properly.

* It can clog pores: Especially if you're wearing heavy makeup or makeup that isn't fully removed, it can contribute to clogged pores, which defeats the purpose of getting a cleansing facial.

It's best to arrive with a clean, bare face for your facial appointment. If you're coming from work or another event where you need to wear makeup, try to remove it beforehand. Many salons also provide makeup wipes if you need them.
