QuestionHiya, Linda!
I was wondering about skin care for younger people (Grade 7).
I'm 12, almost 13, and I would like to know when I should use skin cream/lotion (Day,night,at all?).
I have been using day cream for the morning, and night cream.
Should I be applying this much? As my mom says, if I use too much skin cream/lotion My skin "Might have troubles producing oil"..
Something like that. I can admit, I wasn't listening completely!
Thanks,
Jessie;)
AnswerHi Jessie~
I was your age when I began to become inspired to take good care of my skin. You are definitely not too young. I will assume you don't have oily skin or you wouldn't be interested in applying moisturizers at your age. Will go on that assumption. A daytime lotion moisturizer, something lightweight, would be best for you. It not only conditions your skin, but helps to provide a protective barrier again environmental pollutants. You should be sure it has an SPF of at least 15. If you don't suffer from acne or other problems with breakouts (whiteheads, blackheads) you can go ahead and use a relatively lightweight night cream as well.
With all due respect to your mother....they usually ALWAYS know best!---but, in this case, no, moisturizing day and night will not cause your skin to have trouble producing its natural oils. Eating a healthy diet is what enables your skin to produce those natural oils.
Remember, that drinking 8 eight ounce glasses (I forget what your Canadian conversion is for this, but 8 tall glasses!) of water per day will help your skin stay clear and hydrated. Next to using sunscreen, its one of the most important things you can do for good skin care. Aside from that, be sure to cleanse morning and night and exfoliate once a week with a good facial scrub.
Good luck, Jessie. Keep up the good skin care routine you are establishing and you will be the envy of all your friends when you're 40!----and even before that!
