QuestionQUESTION: I am in my mid 40's and my skin is really dry, especially after bathing and I am in need of some advice concerning a good body wash and body lotion that will help my dry skin. With so many choices available it is hard to decide. I did try the men's body washes, which dried me out terribly, also the Vaseline men's lotion did not do much at all. Some of the lotions I noticed were Dove, Olay Quench, Johnson's Softlotion and Curel. What is your take on these? Are these for women or both men and women? I am not concerned about a scent as long as it softens my skin. Also, what body wash is really good for dry skin?
ANSWER: Hello :)
Let's get your skin feeling soft again !
I understand that tight uncomfortable feeling.
Yes, those body washes can be drying because they have an alchohol base added to them. That is what can make it very drying to some people's skin.
Also, the more scent you smell the more drying that can be.
I would like to suggest getting a Vitamin E oil to start. You can find this at any drugstore or Walmart. After your shower or bath - you can apply this directly to your skin.
Also, what you eat and drink will affect your skin.
Are you drinking up to 8 glasses of water daily? Is your diet comprised of fruits, vegetables, fish (salmon which has DMAE) this alone will get your skin glowingly soft- also for the skin on your face.
May I ask if your face is dry as well? Are you using a moisturizer?
Also, if you can find an almond oil that works great too.
Usually found at health food stores.
Please email me back as I am concerned about your situation. I too used to suffer from dry skin
I changed my diet and use just natural oils on my skin and it makes all the difference in the world

QUESTION: I will look for those oils, my face is not dry, everywhere else is. Is there a bodywash with moisturizers that will help in the shower?
AnswerHello again! :)
May I ask another question - is your dry skin to the point where it cracks?
In the meantime: You could try the following:
- Burt's Bee Nourishing Milk and Shea Butter Body Wash ( they also have this in soap form )
(it's about 98% natural and the milk ingredient in it will eventually increase your skin's moisture - Milk has been used as a skin softener for centuries - Cleopatra used it too.)
Immediately after the shower follow up with Burt's Thouroughly Therapeutic Honey and Grapeseed Oil Hand Creme - honey is a humectant which retains water making it a great skin moisturizer and it's also soothing.
You could also try taking honey orally - working from the inside out is best :)
I'd like to also suggest an exfoliant for you.
We'll stay with the Burt Bee's line and you could try the Exfoliant Body wash.
Burt's Bee can be found in most department and grocery stores.
I use Cortizone 10 daily. You can also find this in any grocery/dept store. You can add this on seperately or with the moisturizer.
Here are also some home remedies:
- Oatmeal baths.
- Placing a humidifier in your bedroom.
Please also include in your next response what your diet is like. This is important and I do want to help you have soft skin again :)
