How to Remove Dark Marks from Back & Shoulders: Expert Cleaning Tips

Question
QUESTION: Hi there! No matter how hard I wash, re-wash, and scrub my back and shoulders, after I'm finished with my shower and then use a topical wipe for my back, it leaves a dark color as if it's still dirty. What am I doing wrong? I can't scrub any harder. What should I do to thoroughly clean my back and shoulders so that there is no dirty residue left on the cotton ball? Do you think it's the soap, scrubing method, etc. Please help! Thanks. :-)

ANSWER: Dear Isabel,

I don't have enough information to be of help to you.  Let me ask you some questions that may allow me to be of assistance to you:

1)  What ethnicity are you?
2)  Is your problem a blotchy, uneven skin tone?
3)  Are you darkly tanned?  In which case your tan, not dirt may be what's coming off on the cotton ball.

Answer
Isabel,

There are many tone-correcting skin care lines on the market.  I would recommend trying one of them to even-out your skin tone on your back and anywhere else it needs even tone correcting.  Your problem is not one of not being able to get your skin clean.  I believe its uneven skin tone that's making you think your skin is not getting clean.

Following are a few of the best drugstore brands of this category of product:

-Nivea Body Natural Tone Body Lotion for an Even Skin Tone
-Philosophy Amazing Grace firming body emulsion --- Evens out skin tone
-Johnson's Body Care 24-hour Body Lotion---soothes, moisturizes, evens skin tone
-Vaseline Intensive Care Renewal Age --- claims to even skin tone and make skin more resilient in four weeks

You can also just Google 'Skin tone correcting, even skin tone body care products' and see what pops up.

Best of luck, Isabel!
