Why Razors Get Dull: Causes and Prevention

Shaving razors get blunt due to a combination of factors:

* Mechanical Wear: The primary reason razors get dull is simply from repeated use against the abrasive surface of your skin and hair. Each time you shave, the blade edge rubs against hair and skin, which gradually wears it down.

* Corrosion: Exposure to water and air can cause corrosion (rusting) of the blade's edge. This corrosion weakens the metal and contributes to dullness.

* Hair Structure: Human hair is surprisingly tough and can contain tiny, hard particles. As the razor cuts through hair, these particles can chip or damage the blade's fine edge.

* Blade Thinness: Shaving razors are incredibly thin and sharp, making them prone to bending and deformation during use. Even slight bending of the edge can make the razor feel dull.

* Mineral Deposits: Tap water can contain minerals like calcium and magnesium. These minerals can deposit on the blade over time, creating a film that interferes with its sharpness.

* Shaving Cream/Gel Residue: Residue from shaving cream or gel can accumulate on the blade, creating friction and hindering its performance.

* Impact with Hard Surfaces: Accidentally dropping the razor or knocking it against a hard surface can damage the blade's edge, making it blunt.
