The Good Wash Company: Eco-Friendly Cleaning with a Purpose

The Good Wash is a venture by a clever, altruistic (and busy) lady called Mandy. I had the pleasure of visiting her at the home of Good Wash in Barry. At present she is doing a lot the work herself, with the exception of volunteers who work in exchange for counselling sessions. She is determined to make every aspect of her company do good for the world. It’s really refreshing.

All of the profits go to charity, such as Hope Rescue, Street Football Wales and Viability. This is their ethos-

It’s really admirable. The range includes several products that would make stunning gifts (or keep them for yourself like I did). There’s a Dog Wash, hand wash, hand cream, shampoo, conditioner, scented candle and a sports wash. All stylishly packaged and tastefully scented .

The Good Wash Company Review

You’ll want to know if there’s any substance to the products with such good intentions. The products are all £15 for 250mls, which isn’t exactly cheap. I can assure you that you get something that is worth spending a bit more for.

The Good Wash founder wanted to create a range that really delivered on quality as well as benefitting the world at large. I would liken the products to Neal’s Yard in that they have similar price points, and quality.

They are all-

  • 99% Natural
  • Cruelty free
  • Made in Wales and locally sourced where possible
  • SLES and SLS free
  • Free from parabens and silicone
  • Fragranced with natural essential oils
  • Curly girl friendly (or near enough, see below)
  • 100% guilt free
  • £15 (for the candles, haircare and body products)

The Good Wash Hand Wash Review

The Good Wash Company: Eco-Friendly Cleaning with a Purpose

Most of The Good Wash products are housed in attractive, practical brown/black pump bottles. The font is tasteful (which, for some reason, is really important to me).

The foaming agent is Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate and Cocamidopropyl betaine which are much less drying and irritating that the more common Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. It also contains Aloe Vera, known for it’s soothing abilities and Argan Oil, which is moisturising and high in Vitamin E.

The Good Wash Hand Wash is fragranced with Lavender, Patchouli and Rose Geranium. The smell is gorgeous and unisex. My husband and kids like it as much as I do.

The Good Wash Hand Cream Review

Obviously it has the same packaging (so similar you might get confused between the two).

This hand cream is all good. It’s main ingredient is Shea Butter. Shea Butter is a really common ingredient, but it’s much underrated. It has many amazing benefits- UV protection, anti inflammation, nourishing and moisturising dry skin, anti oxidant effects. It’s a really great main ingredient for hand cream. To find out more, read Colin’s Shea Butter eBook.

Next we have almond oil (fab for moisturising irritated skin), olive oil (antioxidant, uv protective, hydrating). Then there are fatty alcohols- glyceryl stearate and cetearyl alcohol which are good for conditioning the skin. Glycerin is fab for hydration, Aloe is good for soothing. Then the essential oils- Lavender, Rose Geranium and Patchouli give the cream an amazing fragrance, which I think is going to appeal to everyone.

While I’m not so keen on putting fragrance on my face, I have no such problem with hand cream. The Good Wash Hand Cream sinks in in record time. An essential feature in a hand cream I think.

The Good Wash Conditioner Review

The Good Wash Company: Eco-Friendly Cleaning with a Purpose

The conditioner has become a firm favourite. Let’s explore what makes it so great-

I’ve just been researching the ingredients. I’m not as sure about my haircare ingredients. Apparently glycerin is a good humectant for hair unless you live in a really dry environment, but I live in Wales, so yey! Behentrimonium Chloride is a naturally derived de frizzing chemical, it’s like silicone but without the heavy build up.

There is Argan Oil and Evening Primrose Oil for moisturising. Hydrolysed silk and wheat protein for mending and restoring the hair fibre. It contains D Panthenol (the ingredient Pantene is named after) for moisturising and smoothing. It’s beautifully fragranced with lavender and Rose Geranium.

I’ve included The Good Wash conditioner in my U.K. curl friendly hair product guide. It’s not exactly curly girl friendly if you’re a purist because it contains isopropyl alcohol which is supposed to be drying for the hair. I haven’t noticed that at all.

It has excellent slip and detangling ability especially considering that it has no silicone. It smells lovely. I’ve actually found that I get the best out of The Good Wash conditioner is by scrunching it into wet hair and not rinsing out.

The Good Wash Company is a fantastic enterprise. You can enjoy natural luxury products that look really posh and fancy and at the same time do the world a good turn. The products look great, they smell lovely and I would be happy to buy them even if it had nothing to do with charity.

They only started out last year and have already raised thousands to help homeless animals and humans. Learn more at The Good Wash Company .
