Heel Repair: Effective Tips to Treat Cracked Heels

View Photos Cracked heels can be a major skin problem if not treated well. Cracked foot spoils the appearance and makes the skin rough. The constant exposure to air dries out the delicate skin. The pressure of pounding your feet on the ground when you walk or run splits the cracks and makes it deeper which can lead to bleeding and painful heels. The deeper the cracks; the longer it will take to get healed so keep the feet moisturised specially in the winter time. Apart from applying moisturiser before going to bed here are tips to cure cracked heels.

Tips to cure cracked heels:

Pumice stone: Since cracked heels lead to dry foot skin. So scrub the sole of the foot using a pumice stone every time when you are taking bath. Pumice will file away the dead skin leaving the supple skin on the sole of the foot.

Moisturise: The skin will not easily crack if it is well moisturised. Always keep the foot moisturised to avoid getting cracks. Wear shoes to avoid the skin from drying. Before wearing socks apply a moisturiser or body lotion and then wear it. It keeps the skin moist.

Home foot care: Soak your feet in hot water consisting of dead sea mineral salt for 20 minutes. Dead sea mineral salt is known as it cures skin ailments and smoothen it. Clean the foot by scrubbing a little. You can also use pumice stone. Don't be harsh. Dry the cracked foot and apply moisturizer. Wear socks and go to bed. The best time to work on cracked foot is by treating cracked heels before going to bed. The cream stays on the foot.

Rose water: Mix rose water with glycerin. Dip cotton in the mixture and apply it daily on your cracked heels. Do this for 15 days to cure cracked heels.

Wear Shoes: To prevent heel fissures, wear shoes that cover your feet to help keep the skin moist.

Water: Drink lots of water throughout the day to help moisturise your body from inside and prevent heel fissures.

Banana with glycerin: Mash a ripe banana and add few drops of glycerin. Apply this paste on the cracked foot to cure cracked heels. A natural home remedy to get smooth feet.
