Summers are here and with it the heat, the dryness and all other skin woes! Sunburns, tan, pimples, blemishes and what not!!! Sunscreens are not the only solutions. There are a lot more that your skin needs this summer.

Don’t disappoint those lovely summer dresses of yours which have waited year long. Flaunt them with a glowing supple skin!

The question is with the sun blazing so harshly, how do we protect our skin? Or in lay man terms one would one know of these skin care tips for summer?

1. Keep your skin hydrated throughout the day:

Due to perspiration, the water content in your body reduces drastically thus resulting in dry and wrinkled skin.  Drink lots and lots of water to maintain the water level in your body. Maintaining appropriate water levels in the body will keep you hydrated in the scrotching heat along with cleansing all the impurities, to thus offer you glowing and acne free skin. You may also opt for refreshing drinks like fruit juices and coconut water.

2. Protect yourself from the sunlight:

Try to stay indoors between 11 am to 3 pm. It is during this time of the day that the rays of the sun are the strongest and affects your skin to a great extent. However, if you tend to go out, make sure to cover your self thoroughly with the help of hats and umbrellas. It also is important to protect your eyes and eyes area. So make sure to wear glares as well.

3. Sunscreens are a must during summers:

Before going out in the sun, slather a considerable amount of sunscreen on all the exposed parts of your body to protect yourself from the harmful UV rays and sunburns. Make sure to apply the sun screen according to your skin type and the needed SPF. Applying sunscreen 20 to 30 minutes before moving out would be suggestible.

4. Cool and dehydrate your skin with toners:

Toners cool and dehydrate your skin during summers. Rose water is a very effective natural toner. Its cooling properties make it an excellent toner in summer.

5. Don’t stay away from moisturizer:

We think that moisturiser makes our skin more oily during summer thus resulting in pimples and breakouts. If your moisturiser is too oily, opt for a water-based moisturiser. But never skip moisturizer as the sun will strip away the natural oils making your skin dry, dull and damaged.

6. Cleanse your skin twice a day:

Rid your skin of all the dirt and oil by cleansing it twice a day. Cleansing and moisturising before going to bed is a must whatever the season may be.

7. Exfoliate twice a week:

Exfoliate your skin atleast twice a week to slough off all the dead and flaky skin that forms due to the harsh sun rays. This homemade scrub works great on both face and body:

  • Make equal portions of gram flour, sandalwood powder and multani mitti. Mix these with rose water and scrub your face and body. It helps keeping your skin clean, soft and not so dry.

8. Remedy for tanned skin:

Not so fond of your tanned skin? Try out this simple homemade remedy:

  • Apply a mix of equal quantity of almond oil and vinegar an hour before bathing.

9. Yogurt mask for sunburns:

In case of sunburns use a yogurt mask to cure it. Leave it on for ten minutes on the affected area. Rubbing ice cubes also is an immediate cure.

10. A simple face mask:

For a face mask, prepare this simple face pack:

    • Mash 2 tbsp. of papaya with a tsp. of honey and 1 egg white. Leave the mixture on your face for about 15 minutes and enjoy the glow you get afterwards.
