Eye colours are a wide range we see, and even though we generalise the palettes they come in, please note that the same shade in exact hues isn’t found in any two people. Taking the case of grey eyes, the blue eyes, the browns and the greens or black eyes for that matter, the shades would range from the palest to the darkest. This is exactly why makeup should be customised as per the shades and hues you’ve been blessed with, which enhances the look and creates individualism at large.
And that is exactly what this post talks about. To know more, keep reading!
To choose makeup, especially eyeshadow for the various shades of greys, the first thing to do is to determine the side-shades that exist with the mother shade. They are:
Stand in front of the mirror and wear a white shirt under bright light to do this though, as the white glare would create a spectrum that shows you the real shade of grey you’ve been blessed with.
Here are a few colours with makeup that grey-eyed lasses should completely avoid.
Think of the colour palette you’ve learnt about in school. The colour wheel will give you an idea on which colour would compliment and not contrast the bluish-grey touch in your iris. This would help you choose the right shadow for the lids. For example, opposite on the colour wheel, orange compliments the shade of blue in your iris. So the shades you can choose other than orange would be rich bronze, peaches in matte, metal copper tones, etc. These are shades that help enhance the bluish touch to the iris!
The colour wheel shows us that red would contrast the green and wouldn’t make the eyes look subtle, sexy and soft, hence avoiding the shade and all hues under its umbrella would be the best thing to do. However, shades that you could doll up your eyes with are colours from almonds to salmon, purples to orchids, and even plums to deep caramels.
Some of us have brown and hazel touches along with the dominant grey eyes on our iris, which is why the use of purple eyeshadow would work best as a complementing shade. Other colours that would work like magic are tan, mocha, chocolate and brownish metal tones.
By all means, go right ahead and play with dry grey eyeshadow for a sophisticated look, but learn how to wear it right!
It all depends on the venue, the occasion, and the event you have been called to. Silver and black mix for the eyes is an excellent choice, but you really should keep the shimmer and bling on the lids to the minimum. Black smokey eyes are haute and hot, especially if the iris is a pale canvas. Silver shimmer should be used only in one stroke to complement and highlight the lash line, respecting the grey iris shade as well. Mix a little pink or peach to silver eyeliner, for the pale iris to have something to complement it with, and work your way to the party look this season.
