MAKEUP TIPS AND TRICKS ON HOW TO USE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONCEALERS

  • Makeup tips and tricks on how to use different types of concealers

Concealer can become your best friend and one of the most useful and important tools for achieving flawless complexion, but only, if you know how to use it the right way. Nowadays, there are so many different concealers on the market, that it’s very easy to get confused by all this variety of products. Today, let’s look at some makeup tips and tricks that will help clear up your questions about the use and the application of our faithful camouflaging friend – concealer:

    Consistency of the concealer matters

Depending on the consistency, different concealers serve various purposes. For example, if you want to camouflage pimples and zits, use thick, matte, very pigmented concealer, without light reflecting particles in it; for covering up dark circles under eyes – use lightweight, hydrating formulas of concealers that can not only erase darkness, but also gently care, nourish and hydrate the tender area around your eyes, these types of concealers, often, have light reflective particles.

    What is concealer pencil?

Concealer pencils are, usually, wax based or cream-based products that are perfect for pin pointing and covering up dark spots and little blemishes. You can also line up your waterline with a concealer pencil, it will help open up your eyes and will make you look more awake and well rested. Pencils are also great for illuminating (or highlighting) the inner corners of your eyes or for visually lifting up your brow bone (just apply your concealer pencil under your eyebrows and blend well). Some of my favorite concealer pencils are: Laura Geller Caulk Concealer, Benefit Cosmetics “it” Stick and 3 NYX Wonder Pencil – Face Concealer.

    What is pen concealer?

Most pen concealers have luminous and sheer formula, providing light coverage and featuring a brush applicator. Because of the light reflective particles these concealers can very easily help you to get rid of under eye dark circles and blur discolorations. You can also use luminous pen concealer to highlight certain areas of your face, giving your complexion a brightening boost. Some of my favorite and, on my opinion, best concealers for dark circles include: Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat, Tom Ford Illuminating Highlight Pen and Maybelline New York Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer.

    What is stick concealer?

Most stick concealers have thick, high coverage formula, they are very convenient for touch ups, because you can easily carry them in your purse. Often, stick concealers have anti-inflamatory ingredients, therefore, this type of product can be applied on zits and pimples. Make sure to set your stick concealer with translucent powder for a long lasting and flawless result. Some of my favorite stick concealers are: Maybelline New York Cover Stick Concealer, Max Factor Erace Cover Up Concealer Stick, Benefit Cosmetics play sticks – foundation and concealer and Yves Saint Laurent Multi-Action Concealer.

    What is cream concealer?

This type of concealer is very similar to the stick one; usually, cream concealer has highly pigmented, full coverage formula; it can efficiently help you to cover up large areas of your face, for example, on your chin or cheeks. You can apply this type of concealer with a brush or with your fingers; but avoid overloading your face with cream concealer, because it has tendency to cake up. Some of my favorite cream concealers are: CoverGirl and Olay Simply Ageless Concealer, Missha Signature Extreme Cover CONCEALER SPF30 and NYX Cosmetics Concealer Jar.

    What is liquid concealer?

Many liquid concealers have hydrating properties and light weight to medium coverage. Often, these concealers are suitable for the under eye area. Because of the watery formula liquid concealers can be easily applied and blended with a sponge or a concealer brush. Some of my favorite liquid concealers are: MAC Select Cover Up, Desert Essence Blemish Touch Concealer, Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer Makeup and MAC pro Longwear concealer.

    Why concealers have different colors?

Did you know that the variety of shades and tones of concealers is not an accident. Every color was created for different purposes. For example, if you want to cover up the redness on your face – chose a concealer with slightly greenish tint, concealers with yellowish/orangey undertones can easily cover up bluish under eyes dark circles, while those with peachy undertones work well for neutralizing dark circles with brownish undertone.

    Concealer tips:

    – How to apply concealer? Apply your concealer in a day light, this way you will be sure that, when you leave the house, you will look flawless and gorgeous, just as you did in front of the mirror.

    – When covering up zits and pimples, use pointed concealer brush; place a dot of concealer straight on the problem area and then, blend it around the base of the pimple. If you prefer using your fingers, make sure you thoroughly cleanse your hands.

    – Use a synthetic concealer brush to cover your imperfections and try to use your concealer sparingly, never apply a thick layer of it all over your face, because it can look as good, as a face mask. You can also use fluffy blending brush to apply and blend your concealer for soft and flawless finish.

    – After you’ve applied your concealer, set it by swiping a thin layer of translucent powder over the camouflaged area. Avoid overloading your face with powder, because it can emphasize fine lines, wrinkles and flakiness.
