Safely Steam Wrinkled Silk Curtains: A Complete Guide

Steaming is great option for removing wrinkles from silk curtains. Silk is a heat-sensitive fabric whether it is used in garments or for home decorating uses. A direct heated iron scorches silk, effectively ruining it. To remove wrinkles from silk with an iron, the user must employ a pressing cloth to sit on top on the silk as it is being pressed. With curtains, this can be a time-consuming endeavor. A steam cleaner or steamer makes short work of the task.

  • Hang your wrinkled silk curtains on a curtain rod. Spread out the panels completely.

  • Add water to and preheat your steamer according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Apply steam to your silk curtains, working from the top. Gently pull the curtain taut at a lower section with one hand while steaming with the other.
