The thought of cleaning a dirty oven makes most people cringe. The dirt, the grime, and the noxious smell of oven cleaners are incentive enough to let a dirty oven stay dirty. However, you do not have to face your dirty oven with quite as much trepidation as before, because steam cleaning your oven is fairly easy and doesn't require as much elbow grease as conventional oven cleaning.
Remove all racks except one in your oven. Position this rack in the center of the oven.
Vacuum out any loose debris in your oven with a hand-held vacuum or the nozzle from a standard vacuum.
Fill the ovenproof dish with 1 part water to 1 part vinegar.
Put the dish in the oven and turn the oven on to 250 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.
Turn the oven off and remove the dish and the rack from the oven. Use caution--the dish and rack will be hot.
Put on rubber gloves.
Wipe the oven with a damp sponge. Scrub any tough debris with the scrub pad or steel wool. Wipe out all excess debris with the damp sponge.
