When taping something onto paper, you will likely put a good deal of Scotch tape on it to ensure it is securely attached. Removing the tape can be difficult. Here are some simple steps to help avoid pulling off a layer from the surface of the paper when you need to remove the tape.
Apply heat to the tape. Set a hair dryer on the highest heat setting. Hold the paper a few inches from the dryer with the surface of the tape directly facing the hot air. Hold it there for about 2 minutes; the heat will work to release some of the tape's adhesiveness, making it easier to peel away.
Alternatively, use an iron to apply heat to the tape. Set a hand iron on high, and place the paper (tape side up) on an ironing board. Place a thin towel over the paper to protect it. Lightly glide the iron back and forth a few times on top of the tape.
Peel up a small corner of the tape once the surface area has been thoroughly heated. Use a small knife or a single-edge razor to peel up the rest of the tape by carefully sliding it between the tape and the paper. If the area starts to cool before you are finished, you may want to reheat it.
Use a soft rubber eraser to clean the sticky residue from the paper. Make sure the eraser is clean. Gently rub the eraser over any areas where the tape's glue has been left behind. Start off lightly and add more force as needed. It should clump together and roll off the paper.
