Simmering brings out the flavor of soups, as the seasonings and ingredients meld together. For this reason, it is wise to salt the soup after it is cooked. If you salt the soup while it is cooking, it may taste right after adding the salt, yet turn saltier after if finishes simmering. If you do over-salt the soup, it is possible to fix the situation.
Peal a large raw potato.
Cut the potato into four equal-sized pieces.
Put the potato quarters in the soup and simmer the soup for fifteen minutes.
Remove the potato quarters from the soup. The potatoes absorb the salt.
