DIY Bendable Curtain Rod: Easy Instructions & Hardware Guide

If you want to hang a curtain in a location other than a window area and you need a bent curtain rod, you may wish to devise a rod on your own rather than purchase one commercially. Fortunately, a quick trip to a hardware store is all the inspiration you should need. Within a matter of minutes you can put together a bendable curtain rod that has enough rigidity not to collapse under the weight of the curtain.

  • Measure the length of the area you need to cover with a tape measure to ensure you cut the curtain rod to the correct length. Make sure the tape measure follows the contour of the wall.

  • Cut a piece of ½-inch diameter flexible copper tubing with a hacksaw. This copper tubing can be found in the plumbing section of your hardware store.

  • Sand the cut ends of the tubing with sandpaper to remove any burrs from the cutting process.

  • Slide ½-inch flexible tubing end caps onto the ends of the flexible pipe to cover the exposed ends.

  • Drill a ¼-inch hole approximately 1 inch from each end of the pipe and through the tubing with a hand drill and ¼-inch drill bit.

  • Slide the curtain onto the rod.

  • Secure 90-degree right angle brackets to one side of the tubing with ¼-inch bolts and nuts and tighten with a wrench.

  • Bend the curtain rod to shape and then secure the other end of the 90-degree brackets to the wall or object you wish to hang the curtain rod from.
